`YUKKIE' AWARDS HONOR MILLENNIUM'S WORST

MONTREAL (Wireless Flash) -- Ready to tear your hair out over all the millennium hype? You're not alone. Canadian journalist Josh Freed is so tired of all the lame gimmicks, marketing scams and rip-offs in honor of the year 2000 that he's created his own anti-Y2K gimmick: The Yukkie Awards. -- Winning as the worst songs of the last 2000 years are "Auld Lang Syne," "Lady of Spain" and Barbra Streisand's 1964 hit "People." -- The movies "Barb Wire, The Island of Dr. Moreau" and the all-midget western, "Terror of Tiny Town," win as the worst films of the last 2000 years. -- The biggest fashion victims are Albert Einstein, Joan of Arc and both Queen Elizabeth I and II. -- Finally, the worst inventions of the last 2000 years are the bagpipes, Cheese Whiz, mood rings, the guillotine and Speedo swimsuits. Freed is the co-author of the new book "2000 Reasons To Hate The Millennium" (Doubleday Canada).
