COMPUTER CEO: `REFORMED DRUG ADDICTS MAKE GREAT WORKERS'

CARSON, Calif. (Wireless Flash) -- Can drug use and boozing make you a better worker? It may if you've kicked the habit. It turns out former drug addicts, cons and alcoholics are some of the most productive workers around because they're so desperate to dig themselves out of the hole they've been living in. That's the experience of Gerald Chamales, the CEO of Omni Computer Products in Carson, California. He should know -- because the millionaire spent several years as a homeless alcoholic before he started his computer supply company. So far, Chamales has hired about 100 street-hardened former felons and substance abusers from halfway houses, welfare rolls and drug treatment centers to work at his plant. He says they're especially good at telemarketing, because their toughness makes them less likely to take "no" for an answer.
