NEW STUDY: GRANDMA LIKES THE SAUCE

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- It looks like senior citizens have at least one thing in common with their grandchildren in college -- binge drinking. According to a new study from the University of California at Los Angeles, many seniors "binge" on booze by consuming more than five drinks at one sitting. Researcher Dr. Alison Moore says about 4 percent of oldsters binge on booze at least once a month, while 2 percent binge every day. The study also shows 37 percent of seniors imbibe liquor at least once a week and 12 percent chug down at least one drink every day. Moore says the research suggests heavy drinking is much more common in seniors than previously thought. The results of the study appear in the upcoming "Journal of the American Geriatrics Society."
