COWSILLS HOPE TO MILK A COMEBACK

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) -- Cher isn't the only '60s icon making a comeback on the music charts -- add The Cowsills to the list. The seven-member family band -- which hit No. 2 in 1969 with "The Rain, The Park And Other Things" -- has re-formed with four original members and are hoping a new CD, "Global", will return them to the charts for the first time in 30 years. 49-year-old leader Bob Cowsill says if the CD is a hit, he and his siblings plan to enjoy the success they couldn't enjoy the first time around because they were under the thumb of their very strict father. In fact, the Cowsills were originally cast for "The Partridge Family" but the father blew the deal after he demanded that his wife play the role of "Shirley Partridge," not Shirley Jones. Once the '60s ended, the Cowsills lost most of their money and family squabbles kept the group apart for most of the last 20 years. But Bob hopes the new CD will spark a reconciliation and bring the family back together.
