BASEBALL BLUNDERS BLAMED ON POSITIONS OF MERCURY, MARS

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) -- An explanation for those freak injuries that recently benched Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and Houston Astros outfielder Moises Alou has been found: it was the positions of Mercury and Mars. That's according to New York-based astrologer Shelley Ackerman, who claims astrological conditions are driving baseball players batty and will continue to for the next few weeks Ackerman says from now until April 2, big league players will be prone to an increase in baseball bloopers thanks to the "retrograde motion" of Mars and Mercury which makes it look as if they are going backward. The astrologer says players can counteract the ill effects of the stars by concentrating on fundamentals and making sure all their equipment is in good condition. Although zodiac conditions will improve before the baseball season officially begins on April 4, Ackerman says Mars will stay retrograde until June 4, which means sports fans can expect to see even more stupid errors and sloppy playing.
